Purge therapy is a technique that developed itself though my years of treating chronic pain. I've treated many clients that experience deep emotional upswells during a specific style of tissue work. I have become attuned enough to these upsurging emotions that I "re-experience" them with the clients. Working together, clients are encouraged to express their way through past traumatic experiences that have been left in their body unresolved. Osteopathy and Oriental Medicine believe every experience gets stored somewhere in our physical body until it's released. Sometimes just a few deep breathes can be enough to release a piece of stress. Some need more in order to be released. Most of our experiences even the tough ones can be dealt with in certain ways. Due to the considerable power of the mind, when an experience is too traumatic for the mind, they can be suppressed or even forgotten by the conscious mind in order for the mind to protect itself. When trauma (even the forgotten ones) is left unresolved it gets stored in specific places in the body. Suppressed physiological patterns of avoidance often appear alongside the painful and often emotional memories. We attempt to avoid repeating painful past situations by avoiding similar circumstances that lead up to them. This is similar to the way we avoid physical pain by avoiding movements that use the same planes of motion or muscle groups. Purge therapy is a way to "pull the plug" on both types of pain simultaneously. Purge Therapy offers a safe, confidential, and judgment free place to "re-experience" and then "express" ones way through unresolved trauma, completing the trauma response, releasing it for good. Clients are encouraged to express any and all scream yell bite groan or kick their way through the frustration and pain of old losses. Expression of the emotional upswells is key to this process and all forms of expression are encouraged. Purge Therapy can provide marvelous relief, if we will allow ourselves the vulnerability that love and healing demand.
